Every Tree We Mill Reveals an Opportunity

In addition to producing bespoke custom furniture, Wood Street Studio also offers raw materials. We mill and prepare local exotic solid wood slabs for discerning and visionary clients.

We Work With The Wood, And Not Against The Grain

Each and every board we’ve ever milled has been different from the next. Some boards are hard as steel, some are soft and easy to mill. Rather than fight against these distinctions, we allow them to guide us. We let the wood reveal itself to us, rather than try to control and subdue it. By respecting the wood, we can create furniture that’s as beautiful as the original tree.

How It Works

Wood reveals its beauty and opportunity to us in each step of our process.

Arborist fells a tree or a tree dies.

We transport the tree to our mill.

We mill the tree into lumber.

The slabs go into the kiln.

High heat and dehumidification sterilizes any pests or microbes. We dry the wood to the industry standard 8%-13% moisture content.

We pull the slabs out of the kiln, stack, and rack them.

We flatten each slab with jointing and planing and then sanding.

We evaluate each slab’s potential and plan for its future use.
